Indonesia - Malaysia Increasingly Heated
By: Hermawan Patrianto
This week we saw a lot of news on TV about the relation Indonesia - Malaysia that is begin heating up due to incidents of arrest of three Indonesia marine officers by Malaysian marine soldiers. Some communities in Indonesia consider it is a form of insult to the sovereignty of the Indonesian state, even some members of the Indonesian Representatives (DPR) requested to the Government of Indonesia, especially President SBY to seriously respond to this case. Some of the people of Indonesia considered that not just this one time, Malaysia did the things that interfere with the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia. Claim Indonesian folk song and Indonesian culture by the Malaysian, case of simpadan - Ligitan, and Ambalat, are some issue between Indonesia and Malaysia that have upset the majority of Indonesian society.
On the one hand, we as ordinary people consider that Malaysia too often do a disturbing act of the Indonesian nation. But on the other hand, we see the Government of Indonesia is too relaxed and did not immediately take decisive steps to resolve this matter, so that the people of Indonesia growled against his own government.
Then what should be done by this nation?
1.This nation would have to protect every citizen from every threat that comes from outside, of course, by knowing and understanding the sitting case is actually happening. Take stern action, if it is felt that the authorities less able to resolve this matter, then the President as the supreme leader of the state must intervene immediately to resolve this issue.
2.Once again, understand the problem properly, and bring the parties directly involved in the incident, so that we can fairly judge who is right and wrong. It is important to avoid any possibility of misunderstanding between two nations.
3.Indonesian people not to do negative actions that could trigger an increase in tensions between Indonesia - Malaysia. The best way for this nation is to show to Malaysia that we are a wisely nation and do not like conflict. But if Malaysia continues to consistently do things that threaten the sovereignty of states, then Indonesia should not hesitate to give a strong warning to Malaysia.
